Welcome

The Delta Community Action Team acknowledges

that the workwe do primarily takes place in the

City of Delta. Delta occupies the shared territory of the xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) and sc̓əwaθən (Tsawwassen) as well as other hən̓q̓əmin̓əm̓ speaking peoples who are, and have been, the rightful stewards of this Land since time immemorial.

We are grateful for the resistance and resilience of Indigenous Peoples, and recognize that the toxic drug crisis disproportionately affects Indigenous people. Indigenous people are dying at six times the rate of non-Indigenous people. Indigenous women, Two- Spirit and gender non-conforming people are dying at 11.9 times higher rates than non-Indigenous women and gender non-conforming people.

The work we do at DCAT, and the work of our partners, is urgent and critically important.

It is imperative that we amplify Indigenous voices of the Land in the work we do, following the lead of grassroots, Indigenous-led organizations so that they may continue to support Indigenous people on their own journeys of healing and joy.

We all must take responsibility for holding our elected officials at every level accountable for fully implementing the Truth and Reconciliation Commission’s 94 Calls to Action, the MMIWG’s 231 Calls for Justice and the In Plain Sight Report’s 18 Recommendations. We will all benefit when these recommendations are put in place.
